School Field Trip

Last Thursday I accompanied my son with his school field trip. This would be my first time to come with him since for the past two years it is his dad who goes with him. I woke up around 2 am to prepare our food. I just cooked fried rice and chicken nuggets. I ready our snacks and other things to bring like water, extra clothes, etc. I woke him up at 4am to get ready. We were picked up by our school service around 5am. There are lots of students and parents already in school when we arrived. My foot got tired waiting. I think we rode the bus past 6am and left the school past 7am. Since we did not eat breakfast we eat the fried rice and chicken nuggets, hehehe.

Doll Joy Factory (Pasig) - this is our first destination. They let the kids know first of the history of how they started. I remember its from a couple who had 5 children and loves dolls. After the introduction they let the kids watch a short cartoon show then the tour started. Within the factory we are introduced to different types of dolls they manufacture like wedding dolls, ballerina dolls, clown dolls, Christmas dolls, sports dolls, dolls around the world, Native Indian dolls, etc. They even make the Precious Moments Dolls. They also let the kids try to dress their own doll. There was a part there where kids where ask who the dolls are and David is quiet while everyone are answering with a loud voice. It saddened me because he doesn't recognized the popular classic fairy tales characters like snow white, cinderella, peter pan etc. It made me think I need to buy him books or dvd for him to know those classics. Its my fault not introducing him to those. Anyway part of the tour also is showing how the dolls are made. It was a fun trip for me and my son. I bought him a robot and a small bear for her sister as a souvenir.

Ayala Museum (Makati) - 2nd destination. They first let the kids watch a film showing the story of Ninoy, EDSA revolution, about Marcos. I was touched by the show, I was a little kid when Ninoy died. But I think my son who is 6 years old did not understand anything. Anyway its a good thing I guess for them at that age to hear story about our history. Afterwards we had a tour inside, we saw different paintings of Juan Luna, Amorsolo etc. I remember I went there when I was in grade school and they still have there what do you call it like miniature of different events that happen in the Philippines history. I am not good at history so I just told him a simple explanation of each scenario. Picture taking are not allowed in the museum.

Blue Wave (Pasay, near Mall of Asia) - Its already 1pm when we left the Ayala Museum and almost everyone are really hungry.Good thing we had rice and nuggets before the bus left the school. We are given one hour to have our lunch. We had a light lunch at Shakeys. We order mushroom soup and spaghetti and had a chocolate shake (just for him) for take out.

Seriland (Ocean Park in Manila) - I am not aware that Ocean Park have other fun activities for the whole family aside from their beautiful aquarium. We visited three places there. First is the Art Trick. Its called art trick because they have paintings there that can look 3 dimensional when you take a picture. David have fun posing on each of them. Next is we watch a 3d movie about dinosaurs. This is David's first time and he really enjoyed the 3D, he said he feels like he can touch the dinosaurs and though a little scary he find it really amazing. The last part is the Kid's Paradise it similar to those playground for kids that you usually see in the mall but this is bigger. After the fun we are given 45mins to stroll around to buy souvenirs and to eat dinner. We bought a small nemo stuff toy, toy for him (it has a sticky balls and two round green plastic for each player) and a ref magnet.

By the way, thanks to Kuya Temmy our tour guide. He makes the travel very informative and fun. Thanks also the the teacher who assisted us, Teacher Hope and Teacher Rose. I am looking forward for another school field trip next year.

Family Computer

Well, this is old school but we are able to buy one from SM Appliance store. It is not from Nintendo though. It comes with built-in games, 8800 in 1. When I checked on it, it looks like maybe 20-25 games repeating itself. I don't know what is the difference why it is repeated. It cost 800 php and also comes with a gun. I remember when I was a kid we used to play with our Nintendo Family Computer the whole day. I am not sure if this one  can do that. It shows on the manual to lengthen its life make sure to power off the unit after 1 hour of usage. Well  my 6 year old kid enjoys it and me too, hehe.

2nd Honor in Class

We are so happy with David graduating 2nd honor in the kinder class. Last year he was not included in the honor roll but this time he was able to do better when it comes to academics. He we able to get Best in Math and Best in Language and Most Active Award. I hope this continues until he reaches high school. He will be transferring to a different school this coming year and I hope he would still excel. Long way to go before he graduates in College.... wow! how old am I when that time comes. But whatever happens I will never stop supporting him. I love you David!

Slides and Ladder

Me and David met with Mamu at SM Southmall last Sunday. David needed a black slacks for the coming Buwan ng Wika and my mom says he would pay half of the bill. He actually needs to wear barong and slacks but Robin was able to borrow barong from his cousin RA. While waiting for Mamu, David and I, had some snacks. We bought coke float from Mcdonalds and buy doritos and cheetos. My mom haven't eaten lunch yet so when she arrived so bought chicken and rice from Greenwich. David loves chicken and gravy so my mom also buy one for him. He is not like other kids who only bites a little of their food. He was able to finish the rice and I ate the left over chicken. He prefers eating the skin and the brown part of the chicken.

After eating we then started to hunt for a black slacks. SM is under renovation so it is quite hard to look for what we need. When we reached the department store, we look for childrens wear. A lot of items are on sale but then the slacks that we bought is not on sale. I guess part of the job of sales lady is having a number of sales. Different sales lady from different brands started to offer different slacks. One sales lady even remove my sons shorts without going to the fitting room just to see if it fits. Well after a few try we are able to decide which one to bought.

David started to ask for a toy. I have a tight budget so I told him to buy next time. Mamu give him P100 to buy a toy. Good things there are lots of toys to choose from P100. Kids loves buying toys but most of the time after a week or so they would ignore that it and just throw it under the bed or something. I remember the last time we went to SM I bought him a small billiard table. All of the balls are missing now so he only have the small table left.(hehehe) This time he got "Slides and Ladder." It is the same as snakes and ladder, I guess they change it in to a slide instead of a snake to make it more friendlier. As of this time he is enjoying playing with it. He said he won the game when he played with mamu and mamay.

A Date with David

Usually when either David or Rhaine has a check up it would all of us who will visit the pedia. But then last Sunday it is only me and David. He needs a follow up to make sure that he no longer have a UTI. We leave early so that he can have urinalysis before his check up. We arrived at SM Southmall at around 10:15am and had his urinalysis. We were told to go back at around 12pm for the result. He is number 11 on the queue but Dra. Estorninos haven't arrived yet. I asked David if he wants to eat at Jollibee since he love the gravy and fried chicken there. Wow! to my surprise he requested for KFC, he said he wanted to have krushers chocolate flavor. I saw that they have a new flavor of krushers which is banana chocolate so I tried that. He did not like it that much. He was not able to consumed it all unlike if I order him oreo flavor. But still he loves the chicken with gravy.

After eating we bought Rhaine's milk and decided to go back to his pedia. But then he said he would like to go to Toy Kingdom to buy toy. Its a good thing that he always agree to buy cheap ones. I told him we don't have enough money to buy expensive toy. We bought a small billiard set for only P100. He is very happy and that makes me smile too. Its only 11:30am and I decided to go back to the lab to see maybe the result for his urinalysis is done. I was able to get it but the doctor just came in. She is only at number 2 so it it still a long way to go. Good thing we brought his Nintendo DS so he has something to play with while waiting. There was a little boy watching and talking to him while we are waiting on the couch. I guess after almost an hour his name was called. Dra. Estornins says he already recovered from UTI. I consulted if tetra pack juice and soft drinks can cause that. She said you cannot get UTI from food. Usually it is caused by germs or bacteria that goes to the urinary tract. Since David is not yet circumcise he is more prone of having germs/bacteria at the tip of his "bird." Her advised is to wash well the tip of his "bird" when he takes a bath also told David not to hold on when he feels like peeing. We went home after that and David fall asleep on the way home.

My 5 year old Kid got UTI

AZO Urinary Tract Infection Test Strips, 3-Count Boxes (Pack of 2)Last Saturday we are supposed to go to Batangas to celebrate my grandmother's 81st birthday. Unfortunately something bad happen on Friday. I was still at work when my husband give me a phone call. He said David is vomiting. When I came home I knew he is not feeling well. All he wants to do is to lie down and sleep. He is not the kid who loves to play and run around. My husband and I decided to bring him to his pedia, Dra. Estorninos, at Casa Medica in SM Southmall. We are told that David needs to be confine and need to have blood and urinalyis test.

We bought him in Las Pinas Medical Center. Just like before he did not cry when the nurse inserted the dextrose. We asked him not to look and tell him its going to be very quick. He was confined around 2:30pm and from morning till noon he actually vomited 10 times. During the morning he doesn't have fever and it was in afternoon when his fever started. After the blood and urinalysis test I was told by the nurse that his WBC is high which means that there is an infection. It was the doctor who told me that David has UTI. His urinalysis shows puss on his urine. He was given antibiotic to drink. We only stayed in the hospital for one day. He was told to finish his antibiotic for one week and we will visit his pedia after that. He was also advised to have another urinalysis before the check up.

I am a little bit worried because yesterday he was complaining about stomach pain. I was thinking it is not his stomach and it might have something to do with his UTI. We will visit his pedia this Friday and I hope everything is ok.

July Nutrition Month

Your Vegetarian Pregnancy : A Month-by-Month Guide to Health and NutritionIn celebration of the Nutrition Month for the month of July, Ron David was assigned by his teacher to bring fruit salad. He is in kindergarten now, I can't remember what food he brought last year. This will happen this coming Friday and I need to prepare fruit salad good for 16 people. I find this a good event to let kids know the importance of healthy food. As we all know it is very hard to let a kid eat fruits and vegetable. My sons favorite are fried chicken, corned beef, hotdog, softdrinks and junk food. Once in a while he would agree to eat some veggies like squash, kangkong, carrots, potatoes etc. According to statistics every year 31.8 percent of school age children are underweight, 32 percent are stunted, and 6.6 percent suffer from wasting. Let us act now and train our children to eat healthy food for them to grow healthy and smarter.

Ang Po at Opo

Below is the poem that David needs to memorize. At 5 it is quite difficult for him. So far he already knew the first four lines.

Ang Po at Opo

Ang bilin sa akin ng ama't ina ko
Maging magalang na bata ako;
Palaging gamitin ang po at opo
Saan mang Lugar ako magtungo.

Pag nakikipag-usap sa nakatatanda,
Huwag kalimutan magagalang na salita;
Laging tandaan, lahat ay natutuwa
Sa batang magalang sa kanyang kapwa.

How to Encourage a Kid to Write

One thing that I noticed about David is he doesn't enjoy writing. Last year, while he is in nursery, most of the time he doesn't finish their writing activity in school. We used to finish it at home. Last night when I checked his notebook, another unfinished writing activity. I asked him to finish it and he is really not interested. He was asked to write the word "Toys" in two columns. He did not even finish the first column. I ask him why he did not finish at school and he said he is already tired(hahaha). He always write the letter 's' in reverse position and every time I erased and asked him to rewrite it the more he gets frustrated. We are able to finished the work after a few minutes and he said he wanted to eat dinner. I really don't know what to do to encourage him into writing. What I am currently doing is almost everyday I would ask him to fill out a page of a grade 1 pad paper with his full name. If you have any idea how to encourage a kid into writing please make a post. Thanks!

How to Memorize

David's first assignment at school is to memorize a poem, "Ang Po at Opo." I haven't trained him memorizing a poem. If only I let him join children school  at church before at least he knows how to memorize short bible verses. The poem has 8 lines. It is in "tagalog: and some of the word David is not familiar with. The first two lines goes like this:

Ang Po at Opo

Ang bilin sa akin ng ama't ina ko
Maging magalang na bata ako.

He doesn't know what is "bilin." I explain to him that "ama" means father and "ina" means mother. I also explain what "magalang" is. Its funny because sometime he would say "Ang bilin sa akin ng tatay ko." I had a hard time teaching him because he was getting frustrated easily. He would actually cry out of frustation. Sometime he would mixed the two lines. He would say "Ang bilin sa akin ng bata ako." Waaaaa... I'm starting to lose my patience too. Anyway the next morning he can recite the two lines straight but sometimes would make a mistake. The remaining lines are much harder and I hope he will be able to memorize it. If you know any techniques on how a pre-school can memorize a poem please post it here. Thanks.

Free Nintendo DS Games Download

Nintendo DS Lite Cobalt / BlackMy son always borrow his cousin's Nintendo DS Lite. His nanay told him that he will also get one on his birthday which is on June 21. Thanks to his Tita Weng who decided to buy him the console so that he would not borrow his cousin's DS anymore.

We stroll around ATC (Ayala Town Center) to look for the cheapest price. Each store has different bundle but we find a New Nintendo DS Lite for only P5700. It already has R4 with 2GB of Micro SD card. We can also go their for 1year and have unlimited download for DS games. I think the store also offers games for PSP.

What I did is I buy a card reader for P80 at CD-R King and look for free download online so that I don't need to go to ATC every time. I registered at www.unlimiteddsdownload.com for $39.95 to be able to get instruction on how to do it and get a link for a safe downloads. It is a lifetime membership. My neighbor says I should not paid that much since I can actually download for free online. Well I guess that is alright because that money that I pay for is my income from blogging hehehe. At least I can download DS games and not worry about virus and spyware. There is still hassle on this because it takes time to download because of my internet connection and not all games are working. David enjoys it a lot that he no longer bothers me on my personal computer, yey!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Alvin and the Chipmunks. All opinions are 100% mine.

I haven't watched the movie "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel." I guess it would be a good idea to get a DVD or maybe download it and watch it at home with my kids. I am sure it will be a fun day. My little boy loves watching cartoons at Cartoon Network channel. He enjoys Pokemon, Mr. Bean, Ben Ten, Tom & Jerry, Garfield, etc. I guess it would be a good idea to introduce Alvin and the Chipmunks to him.

How about you guys have you watch it or maybe wanted to watch again? You can get the Double DVD Pack which includes "The Squeak Along" bonus disc and with more music. Cough Relief - Vicks Vaporub on Feet

Yes! It worked for my little girl (8 months old). I received this email a few weeks ago at work. There is no harm in trying. So for two days when my little girl wakes up due to coughing what I would do is put a generous amount of Vicks Vaporub on the sole of her feet and put socks on. After a few minutes she stop coughing and sleep well throughout the night. She still has cough but then it let her sleep well. I recommend this to all moms out there who have children.

David is Sick

Wednesday night I was helping David with his assignment. After writing letter Hh and Ll and coloring some fruits and vegetable he told me he is already tired and would like to rest. I thought he was just playing around since at school if he doesn't feel like writing he would tell his teacher that he is sleepy. I did check his temperature and its only 37 degrees. The next day my husband told me that David actually did get fever during the night ranging from 38-39.

My husband did not let David go to school Thursday & Friday. We are planning to bring him to the doctor later after my shift. I guess due to sudden increase of temperature most people now have colds and cough. Actually all of us Robin, me, David and Rhaine all have colds. David doesn't have good immune system when it comes to colds and cough. Most of the time he gets confined because of a bad cough accompanied by fever. I hope and pray that he will not get confine and will get well right away.

Hot Tempered

Recently, I noticed that I am having problem controlling my temper when it comes to guiding my kid. I get easily mad and sometimes I would hurt him through spanking. I know it is normal for a kid to be so "makulit." Every time this happen I have this guilt within me, thinking why am I doing this to him. I know he is not only hurting physically but emotionally as well.

Being hot tempered, is it contagious? I am trying to analyze if it is just me or am I being affected by my husband's temper. He is the one who often gets mad at David. Most of the time I would tell him not to do it with David. It hurts me too when I see him pleading to stop the painful hit and the shouting. It  melts my heart, really. I don't know if I am doing it just to let my husband see what he is doing.

I am sorry David. Mom will try to change this. I am not like this before. I know I can discipline you better without the shouting. I love you son!

David's Field Trip

Yesterday was my sons field trip. He was in nursery so I let my husband accompanied him. Supposedly it was me who should come but the school move the field trip to a different date. The original date was October 6, but because of the tragedy caused by storm Ondoy the school decided to change the schedule. I am somewhat frustrated because I file a live to be able to join my son and all of the sudden it was change. It is so hard to get a slot for leave in the office. One thing that frustrates me is that part of the field trip is going to Enchanted Kingdom. I haven't been there so I was excited to go.

We left our little girl, Rhaine Danielle, who is 3 months old to my mom because nobody will take  care of her since I am going to work. The night before the field trip, David, got a fever. I told my husband to give him paracetamol. I work at night so during my lunch break around 4am, I called Robin to wake him up and get ready for the field trip.

I will post some of the picture here once I get home and downloaded the pics from my camera. One more thing that is frustrating was I did not charge my digital camera so they were not able to take pictures at Enchanted. I hope before this year end I will be able to visit Enchanted Kingdom.

Report Card

Last Friday David's report card was given. I am very happy to see good grades. In spite of crying for the first month he was able to cope up. His teacher mention before that he is good in academics but has emotional issue. When his card was released her teacher said that David may be able to make it up on the 2nd grading. I hope next time he will get certificate like his other classmates. He is doing ok now. He no longer cry at school and his dad no longer accompany him going to school. He agreed to have school service.

"Loog"

No happenings for this week. Just want to share that David cannot say "loob" (inside). You would hear him say "loog." I guess every kid goes through what we call "bulol" stage.

First Monthly Exam

My son just got out of the hospital last Monday due to fever and cough. We did not let him go to school on Tuesday to rest. This morning I am surprised and happy because for the first time he did not cry at all in school and his dad did not stay inside the classroom nor glance in the window. He also did get a lot of stars on their activities.

I hope it will continue. I am not sure if telling him that he is already a "kuya" or big brother help. I told him since he is already a kuya he should not cry at school so that Danielle (her little sister) will be proud of him. I also told him to teach baby Danielle ABC's and 123's when she grow up. I am trying my best not to build jealousy in him because that is mostly a problem of having a new baby in the family. Tomorrow will be their first monthly exam. We did very little review since he played computer the whole day because of being good and behave at school. I hope he will get good grades.
