Goodbye Lola

It was David's graduation day when my mom send me a text message that my lola passed away. I am not surprised since she's going in and out of the hospital recently. I did not cry but I am sad for what happen. I did not reply to her message because I am speechless. I was not able to visit her when she was confined at the hospital. Lola has diabetes for so many years and I think there are already lots of complications that cause her death. She also had a mild stroke before and she is high blood too. Alzheimer is also one of her illness before she got bed ridden. I still remember when she was still ok. She's talkative and love telling stories. I do remember her stories about dwarfs that kidnapped my tito when he was still small. Thanks to God for her long life and loving family. I love you Lola Julia!

Lung Center Clearance

My husband applied again for work in Taiwan at Jerzon Agency. Last time they were part of the 2nd prio but was not able to leave. This time he is part of the 2nd batch but unfortunately he failed in the x-ray. The result shows he has granuloma. I can see how frustrated he was because he do have plans of paying our debts and renovating our house etc. He was advise by the agency to go to Lung Center in Quezon City for 2nd opinion. Supposedly he should get the result this coming Monday but his colleague who happens to fail also asked him to accompany him yesterday. It was good news since he was given clearance and given a fit to work letter. He would visit Jerzon on Monday and we are looking for good news. I don't want him to leave us but I guess this is for our betterment and also for him to feel much better that he can help. I pray to God to be with us and let his will be done.

Mamu's Birthday at Circle Island Resort

Two weeks ago we celebrated my mom's 57th birthday at Circle Island. All the way from graveyard shift without sleeping I went straight to the resort. We are complete with my two brothers and their family. It was a fun day and we also visited my parents house afterwards wherein there was a birthday celebration also of my dad's friend who happens to be our "ninong." The entrance is only P130 for adults for morning swimming.

National Bookstore goes RED

If SM has green ECO bags, National Bookstore has RED bag just like the color of their logo. RED stands for Reduce Earths Destruction. I know we are used to plastics specially when buying groceries because most of the time those are heavy items. I am not against this but I just hope they would produce better paper bags that can support mor weight. Anyway eco red bag of National bookstore is only 12 pesos which is enough for basic school/office supply.

Grill Pan

I'm starting to love the grill pan my mom give us last Christmas. First time I used it is with fresh tilapia. Its very easy to use, no mess compare to the real grill using charcoal or "uling." I've already tried it with pork chop and bangus. I am thinking of trying to cook a barbecue or kebab.

Pupur

That's what they call it in Batangas. It's actually pork cooked on its own fats. Most of the time when I cook pork let say for "sinigang" or "adobo" etc. I usually remove the fats with skin and cook it as "pupur". It can be a "pulutan" or can be eaten with rice. I use to eat it while cooking my menu, hehe. Chili vinegar is a good pair for this.

Here is the oil that I was able to remove from that small amount of fats almost 1/3 of a cup, wew!

Foul Smelling Mushroom

In front of our house is a very small garden. My husband notice a bad smell just near our door step. It smells like rotten rat or spoil fish, something that is really not good or irritating. Only to find out that there is something mysterious in our garden. I was not able to take picture of it but looks like a white colored thing, I can't describe the shape since its disoriented but there is a sticky green thing on its top that is making the bad smell. Flies are actually attracted to it. I got a headache when I went near it due to the foul odor. He said the pulled that thing before but it came out again so this time he decided to dig the ground. We find out that its root is tangled to the plant beside it. He then removed both the plant and the foul odor thing. I started googling and find out that its a fungus just like what our neighbor says. Its actually a stinkhorn fungi. It actually comes out during cold weather. Its Christmas season and the breeze is quite cold so I guess that is why it come out I hope not to see it again in our garden because its really really a annoying.

Our First New Year Celebration at our own House

We just move May of last year to our new house. We celebrated Christmas at my mom's house so we decided to welcome the new year at our house. We don't have any vistor so its just the four of us, me, my husband and my two kids. We prepared spaghetti, bread, ham and fruits for the evening. Nanay gave us something for desert like ube, ginatang bilo-bilo and graham. She also give us kare-kare and menudo. I let my kids sleep in the afternoon so that they will be awake on new years eve. After eating we spend the night watching fireworks (we don't have any fireworks except for a small "lusis" that we did not use) and taking pictures. Our neighbor had a video and drinking session so my husband stayed there a little bit. I think we slept our 2am and in the morning we went to Batangas to have a splash at Endaya Cove. It was a great day to welcome the year 2012. Thank you Lord for all your blessings!!!
